BBMP flogs old infrastructure projects
Promises measures to reduce traffic congestion, more parking places in prime locations, grade separators.
Most of the proposed infrastructure projects in the BBMPs 2010-11 budget would not come as a surprise for Bangaloreans. They were either announced by our elected representatives at various public fora or figured in previous budgets.
Under the Capital Investment Plan, which is approved by the state government, the BBMPwill spend Rs 1,000 crore to develop signal-free corridors for better connectivity with state and national highways from the citys central business districts (CBDs).

Rs 1,000 crore has been allotted for construction of multi-storey vehicle parking centres and improvement of 10 busy routes in various parts of the city in a bid to de-congest roads and increase parking slots in prime locations. The proposed parking lots will come up on vacant sites near Freedom Park,BBMP properties on Gandhi Bazaar main road, near Garuda Mall,Puttanna Kanagal theatre,Sirur Park Road Health Centre, community hall of Akkthimmanahalli stadium,Malleswaram (west) Temple Road,Cantonment Railway Station,Russell Market and Kumbargundi.
To reduce congestion, the civic body will prepare a detailed project report for signal-free traffic movement from Yeshwantpur Circle to Outer Ring Road (about 3.5 km).
At least 50 grade separators (flyovers or underpasses) will be constructed in phases at various locations.Rs 178 crore has been allocated for the construction of a flyover from Sirsi Circle to Nayandahalli.
NEW TECH IS OLD PROPOSAL
THE BBMP claims to be using new technology to ease traffic movement in areas with high building density. These include building elevated steel bridges and underground tunnels. One such tunnel will come up between Subhashnagar and the city market and Okalipuram .An elevated steel bridge between Minerva Circle and Hudson Circle is on the cards. Both have been spoken of for years, but are yet to see the light of the day.
